Singing Luther: an exploration of the songs that changed the world

Watch it here:

Martin Luther (1483 – 1546) was the unintended revolutionary whose actions precipitated a split in the Church. This bedrock institution lay at the foundation of kingdoms and communities, societies and structures, hearts and minds. Its rift and redesign affected a sea change, with reverberations that can be felt in the waters of society even today.

This concert explores the impact of the Reformation through its hymns, both then and now. Divided by geographical territory, we begin in modern-day Germany, through the Nordic countries, the UK, and finally to the New World; roughly following its historical path.

The hymns to be sung include hymns by Luther and his fellow hymn writers (including hymn writing converts in the new lands) that maintain favour in their respective countries.
